Our Trustees

Pam Smith (BMus(Hons), BSc(Hons), PGCE, MBPsS) lives in Walton on Thames with her husband and has two grown up sons, one of whom has Asperger's Syndrome. Pam has first hand experience of supporting her son through mainstream school and college with staff who frequently didn't understand his complex difficulties and needs. She continues to support her son in his job and relationships and often feels like an interpreter, explaining the social conventions of a neurotypical world and helping him out of various scrapes and misunderstandings that inevitably occur! Pam has been a teacher in special education for 20 years and taught for 8 years at Freemantles School for children with ASD. She currently teaches in the Nursery at Manor Mead School, Shepperton, which provides education for children with severe learning difficulties, profound learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. Pam recently trained with Dr Dave Hewett to become an Intensive Interaction Co-ordinator and is a passionate advocate of this approach to encourage communication and social interaction. In her spare time Pam enjoys all kinds of live music from ska-punk to opera.
